Schulz_Photoshop Tips & Tricks: Tilt-Shift

Tilt-Shift Effect

This is a fun, quirky trick that turns a normal photograph, generally one taken higher up, into a miniaturized world.

Here is an example of my own before/after:

These are the steps I used:

Step-by-Step Tilt Shift

Step 1:
Enter Quick Mask Mode

Step 2:
Apply a gradient of what you want to be in focus (in these steps, I chose another point of focus than in the before/ after shots)

Step 3:
Exit Quick Mask Mode

Step 4:
Apply a Lens Blur by going up to Filter > Blur > Lens Blur
The adjustments panel will open as seen below. Adjust focus with the radius bar.

Step 5:
Once you are satisfied with your Lens Blur, hit CTRL + D to deselect

Step 6:
Hue/ Saturation Adjustments
For an added effect, apply an adjustment layer to your photo to saturate the colors
Wallah! Finished:
