Puente Introduction

Hi, my name's Cindy Puente! I'm 19 years old and I'm from Austin, Texas.This is my second year at Texas State and I'm a junior studying Communication Design. My main passion is digital illustration and I've been working with photoshop for a few years now! I've never taken a formal class on it, so I'm happy to be able to go back and learn the fundamentals in a more industry-standard way rather than my shaky self-taught methods. I'm excited to branch out and learn more about using other programs as well, especially in the field of web design! Outside of art, my main passion is music! I'm a huge fan of live music and I've been an avid collector of rare and vintage vinyl records for years. A long long time ago I used to play the violin, but admittedly I've been ignoring playing for the past few years to pursue art. Even so, I'm super excited to be part of this class and learn as much as possible!

I am currently working in Career Services in LBJ as a graphic designer, so I know a bit about the Adobe Suite, but there's still tons to learn, and I've been looking forward to finally starting ComDes classes!

My name is Luke Kiely, and I'm from Austin.  I'm 24 and a Junior in the Commuication Design program.  I took my sweet ass time getting through college and I'm glad I did.  Music and art are my passions, and I have been drawing and painting my whole life. I work as a server and bartender at a tex-mex restaurant called Maudies in Austin, and I also do oil and charcoal portraits for commission.  I have a good deal of experience with hands on visual art but absolutely none with photoshop or illustrator, and I am eager to learn.

Vogt_Introduction

Hey,

My name is Ethan Vogt (pronounced "vote") and I am a sophomore at Texas State. This is my first semester here (this class Tuesday was actually my first); I transferred from Victoria College in Victoria, TX, where I was born and raised. I've been doing personal web design for probably ten or eleven years now, though I only began to get serious with the design process within the last couple of those. I've come to find that I love typography and use the ampersand, the em dash, & italics whenever possible (well... applicable). I've taken multiple classes dealing with Photoshop and Illustrator, though I still have a great deal to learn and look forward to doing just that.

In my spare time I tend to read, make heavy use of Netflix, and drink as much coffee as I am able. I love to write creatively but have found that I cannot finish any work of substantial length. I am in love with the web and spend much of my time designing and coding sites and templates merely for the sake of experimentation. I find HTML5 and CSS3 fascinating, and that probably makes me a bit of a geek—that's fine with me, though.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to an exciting first semester.

My name is Steven though some call me Steve-O. This is my first semester at Texas State and have recently returned to school after a 5 year hiatus. I work as a barista in an upscale coffee house in Austin.   High end coffee has been a passion of mine for years. There is a whole subculture of baristas and enthusiasts who explore the field of coffee in ways most wouldn't think is possible. Twice now I've competed in the Specialty Coffee Association of America's barista championship. Believe me this competition is just as nerdy and boring as it sounds. I also like to dance (lindy hop and two step mostly) and to cook. The most interesting meal I've ever cooked was a menu of upscale versions of white trash comfort food. It included Mahi Mahi fish sticks with spiced ketchup, three cheese macaroni with kielbasa (a take on mac and cheese with cut up hot dogs) and iceberg wedge salads with jalapeño ranch.

Simmons Introduction

Hello, 

 

My name is Cassie Simmons. I am a sophomore at Texas State and I have lived in San Marcos my whole life. I am currently in the process of leaning how to ride a unicycle. It's not coming along too well. It's been pretty cold out, so all my practice has been confined to the small amount of floorspace in my bedroom. When it starts to warm up I'll get outside and really get rolling with my practice (no pun intended). I just hope I don't break too many bones in the process.

Did you know that San Marcos has a Unicycle Football League? When I went downtown to purchase the unicycle, I was asked by several people if I was going to try out for a Unicycle football team. I had heard about the league before but had never really looked into it before. So, I decided to do so. I looked through the UFL website and watched some videos of there games and it all looked really awesome. After a whole lot of more practice on my unicycle (and possibly some improvement in my coordination) Unicycle Football is definitely something I would be interested in trying. For now I'll just stay on the sidelines.

They play right outside of the San Marcos Activity Center on Hopkins St. In fact, they have a game this Sunday. I think I'll wait til it warms up a bit before I get out there to watch. I'm a wimp.

Hey everyone,

My name's Allison Traugott. I am a freshman here at Texas State, and I'm from New Braunfels,  TX which is just right down the road. My cousin just graduated from txstate with a ComDes degree so that's basically how I was introduced to the program... I live with my family on 25 acres of land and we raise whitetail deer, so I guess that's relatively interesting.

This past summer I took a once in a lifetime trip with the txstate outdoor center where we traveled to Colorado and got to camp (literally...'pitch a tent' camping) in the backwoods. One morning we hiked to the summit to watch the sunrise....it was soooo cold!
