Kowalski_Proj5 Thumbs

I want to design an editorial for this article, "Dyeing Easter Chicks Raises Concerns" which discusses the concerns in the annual dying baby chicks for Easter. Although these chicks are soft, fluffy, cute, are very colorful and what may seem like a great present to give on Easter, this is argued as a form of animal abuse. Every year poultry farmers inject dye into eggs so the chicks are born with bright colorful feathers and sell them. Or once they are born they are sprayed with a colorful mist. Although farmers say the dye is not harmful to the chicks, sometimes it is and the chicks die at an early age. Even if the dye is not harmful, these chicks are sold at too young of an age. Also, many of these chicks are improperly disposed once the children grow tired of them (which is reported within weeks after Easter).

For my design I want to create a simple and straightforward editorial. In my thumbs I chose a syringe, egg, colorful chicks, and an easter basket to work with. My own picture will either be the easter basket or the egg, and my illustrations will be of the chick and/or syringe. Some of the compositions I explored are more disturbing, however powerful and more emotional than others. However I believe any of these compositions can immediately grab someone's attention and tell the viewer exactly what is going on in the article.
