I chose an article from CNN about the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic. It has been such a popular topic in the last month with the movie coming back out in 3D and it being the 100th anniversary. It was such a tragic event in history and is still widely discussed today. The article is about a retired couple who is going on the Titanic Memorial Cruise where they will travel exact voyage and route that the Titanic sailed back in 1912 and they will stop at the location where it sank and approximately 1,500 people lost their lives in the Atlantic then will end their trip in Southampton where the 700 survivors landed. The ship that will set sail in mid April is nearly an exact replica of the Titanic and the dining rooms will follow the etiquette that was used in the early 1900s, and on the night of the 14th the passengers will dress up in costume of the early 1900's.
I watched the documentary Sunday night (4/8) about a team of men and the directors of the film trying to pinpoint exactly how the ship sank and them discussing all of their different theories on the ship's sinking. Many of these men have been dealing with this since the early 1980's when they first discovered where the sunken ship was located and for many of them, it was a very emotional topic for them to talk about. One of the men has been painting pictures of the Titanic since the 60's and when he saw the sunken ship for the first time in the 80s he broke out in tears. I just think it's a very interesting, popular topic and would love to do further research on it. I can't imagine going on the same route that the Titanic took 100 years later and stopping where over a thousand innocent people lost their lives. It's is very emotional.
