I picked an online Time magazine article titled Why Is Scary Music Scary? Here's The Science. The article is about the science behind why scary music (in movies) invokes a frightened reaction in humans. The article talks about a correlation between certain musical notes and high pitched screams from animals and young children/babies that both create a primal feeling of fear. These sounds also create a bigger reaction when set to more stimulating images or videos than when set to more passive images or videos. Higher musical notes were shown to cause a greater reaction than lower musical notes as well, which was compared to an animals screech going higher when frightened. The music that was non-linear was rated as more emotionally stimulating and linked to "strongly negative emotions such as fear."
For my project, I plan to combine images of Animals and horror icons, with musical notes emitting from them or around them, maybe with some text from the title of the article thrown in. Maybe have the faces of the animals take the places of the killers, to show a greater connection between the two. I'm not sure about the musical notes, but I don't know what else to use to show music. The pictures that I take myself will be of cats and dogs, maybe the musical notes as well. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the background, probably just a simple black or some other color. Maybe some kind of texture. The horror icons will probably be either Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, or Jason Voorhees.
