Dennis Tito, the self made millionaire who paid for his own trip to the International Space Station 10 ears ago (the world’s first orbital tourist), wants to send a two person crew on a 501 day fly-by of mars in 2019, 100 miles above the red planet’s surface. He just needs the money and a willing crew to brave the daring adventure. He created the Nonprofit Inspiration Mars Foundation and plans to begin his scheme out of his own pocket and out of the jurisdiction of NASA. He wants a two person, middle aged married couple with stable physical and mental health with intelligence and ingenuity to take a journey that he calls a “sea change” to mover beyond only talking about human expeditions to Mars into reality. The planned date of departure is May1, 2019.

My idea is somewhat of a political cartoon. The way I see it, he is making a crack (delivering a challenge?) at not only our complacent American people, but NASA as well for limiting themselves. It is also somewhat about a private business man working outside of the government’s influence, which is unfortunately rare these days. I will probably take a picture of the night sky, some rendering of mars, some other elements to make up my cartoon. I also want to somehow incorporate my idea of a private business man, so maybe some elements of the Monopoly Man, in which case I would find an elderly man to take a picture of and then give him a mustache and a top hat and such.
