I have chosen to explore the day in the life of a bird. Though we are surrounded by birds and often curse them, an overwhelming number of people would say they would like to be reincarnated as a bird. Maybe because one is envious of the ‘free spirit’ or possibly the ability to soar above everything, who knows. I plan to use a few photographs I have taken of the outdoors as the main background and then incorporate details throughout the rest. I would like to represent the flight and the nesting of the bird. My drawing will probably be something simple like a birdhouse, a worm, or clouds. I am going for a very earthy, ethereal feel. So we shall see how that goes. In order to make it ethereal, I imagine a delicate bird flying in a sky that is extremely bright white. I also imagine some line drawings of leaves and twigs, possibly partially framing the composition. The framing could act as if you are in the canopy of a tree and a bird is soaring above, directly in the sunlight. I think a feeling of height and fluidity are also going to be important. One component I am considering adding is the song of the bird. I do not know how to represent that at the moment as I don’t think the musical notes are appropriate. I will further explore that element as I work with my thumbnails.
