Here are a few thumbs for my Harvey Milk stamps. The first
set represents Milk’s early adult life and the second represents his political
career and activism. In his early adult life, Milk wasn't really interested in politics
and activism nor was he open about his homosexuality. He lived in New York and had relationships
with men but kept his romantic life separate from his family and work. I had
trouble coming up with ways to represent this time in his life, but the ones I
did create show him ‘in the closet.’ I chose to represent it in this way
because several of Milk’s most famous quotes from his political career about gay activism reference
the closet metaphor.
