Ceopatra was the daughter of Ptolemy XII. She was extremely smart and educated, speaking seven languages and an expert in chemistry and poison. Besides her intelligence, she was very beautiful and used her beauty to her advantage as she dabbled in politics. When Berenice IV revolted against her father, she fled to Rome. When he got back his throne, he made her co-regent for the rest of his life. Her first husband was her little brother, 7 or 8 years her junior. She through a fit about wanting to rule by herself and was overthrown by advisors.
Now banished from Alexandria, Cleopatra was presented to Julius Caesar, and he promptly took her as his wife and killed Ptolemy to make her undisputed ruler of Egypt. She had one of his sons who later stayed at Caesars guesthouse. After Caesars death she returned to Egypt to rule with her son.
She became lovers with Marc Anthony, who was in control of East Rome. Eventually they were overthrown by Octavion who invaded Egypt and decimated their forces. Marc Anthony is told Cleopatra was dead and comits suicide in despair, and in order to defy Octavian, Cleopatra comits suicide with a cobra. It was all very theatric.
