Fehrmann, Postcard Thumbs
Tomball, Texas is located just northwest of the metropolis of Houston. Though the town is growing due to its proximity to such a large city, it still maintains a small town feel and status. Tomball is predominantly rural, having been known as a very popular railroad center for the transport of agricultural products and an oil boom in the early 1900’s. There is a large German influence in Tomball. Many of the streets are named for prominent German citizens of the town. And every year the citizens of Tomball celebrate Oktoberfest.
Meridian is a city located in Bosque County in Central Texas. A growing city, Meridian is the host to several food competitions including the National Championship Barbecue Cook-off and the John A. Lomax Cowboy Music Gathering and Chuck Wagon Cook-off. During the mid19th century, the town prospered as a shipping center for surrounding farms due to the development of a railroad system. Meridian is known as the “Top of the Hill Country” for its rolling hills and cedar mesas that cover the area.
Alpine is a small town located in the mountains of West Texas. It was rated one of the top ten small towns in Texas by Texas Highway Magazine. Alpine is considered the “gateway” to Big Bend National Park. It is known for its great climate and beautiful surrounding scenery. It is also home to the Museum of the Big Bend, a repository of information highlighting the cultural and natural history of the Big Bend Region.
